Established in 1920, when legendary Pacific Northwest outdoorsman Eddie Bauer opened a single Seattle retail location. In 1936, after nearly freezing to death on a winter hunting trip, Eddie designed a quilted down jacket that he went on to patent in 1940. This innovation in down outerwear was to become a cornerstone of the company.
